1943 Monark Albin M/42 | Sweden
During World War II Sweden was one of eight countries in Europe that officially remained neutral. The Swedes had no plans to go to war, but kept the army combat-ready and in 1935 the Swedish government asked Husqvarna to develop an all-terrain army motorcycle. It was called 112TV.
By 1940, Husqvarna was no longer able to produce motorcycles for the military. It needed ""fresh blood"", and two companies came to the aid - Monark and Albin.
Albin upgraded proven 112TV engine for the new bike, and the company Monark was asked to make the frame in its best tradition. The frame on the bike is hybrid, partly tubular, partly stamped steel. The front suspension is parallelogram and the rear suspension is plunger-type.
The motorcycle is fitted with a 495cc single cylinder OHV engine and a three-speed gearbox with a foot switch. The drive is made by open chain.
Between 1942 and 1943, about 3,300 M/42 motorcycles were produced (3,000 with OHV and 300 with SV engines), many of which remained in service in the Swedish and Dutch armies until the mid-1960s.
